Definition of sport

The Australian Sports Foundation (ASF) was established to assist the development of Australian sport. In order to be considered for registration, a project must have a sporting focus. The ASF uses the ASC definition of sport which states that sport is defined as:

“a human activity capable of achieving a result requiring physical exertion and/or physical skill, which, by its nature and organisation, is competitive and is generally accepted as being a sport.”

Eligible organisations register sport related projects with the ASF to assist their fundraising efforts.

This generally precludes activities which are purely recreational or whose purpose relates primarily to social activity. Hobbies or pastimes generally are not considered to be sports. If you are unsure if your activity qualifies as a sport, please contact us.

‘There is no question that the level of donations received was higher than expected because of the benefit of each donation being tax deductible. This has been a key factor in the project growing from concept to reality.
