About the project

“It’s every child’s dream to represent their country playing sport, the chance to play for Australia, to be one of the best that our nation can produce on the sporting field.”

My name is Molly Dickson, I’ve just turned 15 years old and have been picked to be one of the inaugural members of the Australian Under 19 Floorball team, representing Australia at the World Championships between May 2 and 6, 2018, in Switzerland. My sporting dream is about to come true, I’m playing for Australia!

Floorball is a fast-growing sport here in Australia. It’s a massive sport in Europe and is probably best summed up as a mix of indoor hockey and ice hockey. It’s fast, furious and you have to be fit. 5 players are on the court at any one time but given the level of intensity, you have about 10-15 people in your team, rotating every couple of minutes. Google floorball – you will love what you see.

I am seeking support from the community to help me be part of this inaugural Australian floorball team. In two months’ time, my family has to fund a two-week trip that includes one week in Helsinki (a training camp prior to the world championships) and a week of competition in Herisau, Switzerland. We leave on 22 April 2018. There is no state or national sports funding for athletes who get the chance to represent Australia unless you go to the Olympics (that’s next!).

This is a big ask at short notice and I’m hoping that through some local fundraising, my participation can be a reality. As it stands today, the costs for me to travel to Finland and Switzerland, accommodation, food, equipment and travel expenses are estimated to be approximately $6,500.00.

My parents have, through the Australian Sports Foundation, created a sports based ‘go fund me’ page (but it’s not using Go Fund Me!!). The bonus of using the Australian Sports Foundation is that all donations are tax deductible so you can recoup some of your donation at tax time!

All donations, no matter how small, will help me represent Australia at the peak of my chosen sport at my age. For businesses, community groups and for larger donations, I would love to 'give back' by offering to give a presentation at the end of my participation in the World Cup. This will help you, your group or organisation understand how important your donation was to me and my aspiration to be part of this wonderful opportunity!

With your permission, I would love to post thankyou messages on my facebook page to those who support me in my fundraising effort, so you can expect a post from me recognising your contribution ! (unless you tell me otherwise).
