About the project

My name is Rebecca Sullivan,

I have been selected to represent Australia at the 2018 WKF Senior World Championships held in Madrid, in November. This will be my first Senior World Championships and a qualifying event for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

This selection has come off a year of self-funded travel for training and qualifying tournaments. It is an honour to represent my country and it is my aim to represent Australia at the highest possible point – the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

I am seeking support to assist with the costs associated with attending the following Olympic qualifying events and national events in the upcoming year:

All donations over $2 are tax deductible

• WKF Karate 1 Premier League in Paris- France, January

• WKF Karate 1 Series A in Salzburg- Austria, March

• WKF Karate 1 Series A in Istanbul- Turkey, March

• OKF Senior Championships in Australia, April

• AKF Open in Australia, April

• WKF Karate 1 Premier League in Rabat- Morocco, April

• WKF Karate 1 Series A in Montreal-Canada, June

• WKF Karate 1 Series A in Shanghai- China, June

• WKF Karate 1 Premier League in Tokyo-Japan, September

• WKF Karate 1 Series A in Santiago- Chile, September

• WKF Karate 1 Premier League in Moscow- Russia, October

• WKF Karate 1 Premier League in Madrid, Spain- December

There is currently no state or national funding for National team members for these events so fundraising will help make my dream a reality.

All donations, no matter how small or large, will be greatly appreciated and will contribute to helping me achieve my goals. For example;

  • $20-$50 would contribute to medical supplies such as strapping; mouth guards; heat rubs; and cold sprays etc.
  • $100-$300 would contribute to train tickets; tournament registration fees; physio appointments; training equipment; competition uniforms.
  • $300+ would contribute to flights which often exceed $1000.

I have been a karate instructor at West Coast Karate since 2009, and have had the privilege of working closely with the children and families of my local community. It has been a deeply rewarding experience helping individuals develop their concentration, self-discipline, self-respect, confidence, balance, coordination, fitness and self-defense skills. By taking this time now to commit to my own goals and self-improvement, I hope to gain much more experience in karate and life, which I can directly contribute back to students and therefore, the community.
