I have been selected to represent Australia at the 25th World Karate Federation Senior World Championships in Dubai. The World Championships are held biannually and is the pinnacle event in world karate. This event is limited to one competitor per country which makes it a prestigious tournament of the highest calibre from around the world. My selection is on the basis of my most recent result as 2021 Australian Open Champion and consistent international performances prior.
Pre-pandemic, costs involved in these events including travel, tournament fees, accommodation and entry fees were largely self-funded like most amateur sport with little subsidy from State and National Federations. Now in a COVID-19 world, additional costs of hotel quarantine, COVID-19 testing, insurance and travel restrictions have increased significantly.
Given the pandemic situation, it has been challenging to maintain a consistent level of training and competition in addition to balancing full-time work and professional studies. After missing out on the Olympic Games this year, I'm more determined than ever to make a push towards my goal of becoming a World Champion. I consider myself extremely fortunate to be selected and honoured to have the opportunity to represent Australia. As an ambitious 23-year-old, I intend to do everything that I can to achieve my goals!
I'm aware that a lot of us are doing it tough right now, and if you're reading this far in please don't feel obliged to donate however, if you can, your generosity via a tax-deductible donation will help make my goals a reality and be thoroughly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your support!
