ABOUT Tyson Gent
I have been doing Athletics since 6 years old but it was never my first choice sport. I always favoured Soccer instead but from 16-19 years old Athletics just began to take over my life, it was one of the only things I looked forward to doing. Living with & being raised by my grandmother on a pension it was always hard for her to pay $1000 p/a for NPL Soccer fees or $3000+ p/a to go to nationals athletics.
I’ve qualified but not been able to go to a few high level races due to financial difficulties. My Grandma always tried and she has invested a lot of money and time into me so far, I’ll be forever grateful for all the opportunity she has provided me with.
I became the Under 20 100m, 200m & 400m state champion in 2022 which was a very rare achievement to accomplish, winning all 3 in the same state champs weekend.
2023 & 2024 were cursed with injuries and some mental health issues.
Now 2025 is here and I’ve gotten back to the top and with Nationals coming to Perth this year I can perform at the best level in the country without having to book a 4 hour flight.
I’m currently starting this fundraiser due to my recent incredible form and looking to fulfill my wish to race at my first professional race: Stawell Gift. Named Australia’s richest footrace, nationally televised every year over the Easter weekend. I’ve watched it and dreamed about running it for the last 5 years and my grandma has watched it for the last 30 years!
However, with it being so close to the date and inflated prices on flights and accommodation due to the holidays I may not be able to afford to go over and compete.
