Following extensive community research, the committee of the Balmoral Recreation Reserve intends to build a community facility at the Balmoral Recreation Reserve to incorporate the following:
  • social facility, with kitchen/bar,
  • change rooms for males, females and umpires,
  • accessible toilets
  • stadium viewing and a verandah for spectators,
  • scorers /time keepers box, and
  • storage and office facilities.The facility is to be a shared space for sporting groups such as:
  • Harrow/Balmoral Football Netball Club
  • Balmoral Cricket Club, Balmoral Tennis Club
  • Balmoral Rodeo Committee
  • Balmoral P and A Society
The facility would also be available for hire under agreement for private functions. The are so many benefits of building such a facility:
  • it provides an inviting place for locals and visitors to the town to participate and support friends and family in their sporting endeavours.
  • hygienic, private and accessible change room facilities for both men and women is essential for local sport to ensure there are no barriers to participation for all members of the community.
  • kitchen and bar facilities provide opportunity for fundraising to assist in maintenance of the facility, through sale of food and refreshments.
  • sheltered spectator facilities enable people to participate and support sporting events and community functions knowing they can do so in comfort.
  • community participation at events ensures the strength and viability of sporting clubs whilst giving back to the community through providing a sense of belonging to individuals of all ages.
  • encouraging participation in a range of sporting activities ensures young people stay engaged in the community and avoid the many risks facing young people in today’s society through social media and substance abuse.
  • older adults who are past the age of participation still feel a sense of enjoyment and belonging through being a spectator at sporting events. These community representatives also provide a mentor role to the younger generation.
