ABOUT US
Frustrated by the lack of opportunities for young women playing cricket in Victoria, Clare Cannon and Ken Jacobs took their first local women's team to tour England, and Cricket Without Borders was born. The organisation has subsequently focused its attention on developing women's cricket in Australia and the surrounding Asia Pacific region. Now in its sixth year of operation, CWOB has since taken development tours of young Australian Women to Singapore, Darwin, Japan, and Fiji, with an upcoming tour to Samoa locked in for July 13th 2016. 

Realising the plethora of raw cricketing talent in the Pacific region, CWOB took a composite girls side aged 15-21 from around Victoria to Fiji in September 2015. Along with head coach and former Australian test player Bryce Mcgain, the girls played a T20 tri-series against the Cricket Fiji national women's team, held development sessions in local disabilities schools, skills building sessions in primary schools, donated equipment to local players and Cricket Fiji, and held a function at the Australian High Commission Fiji to promote their mission statement. 

For many of the young girls chosen to represent CWOB it will be their first time out of Australia, first international cricket experience, a chance to contribute to grassroots cricket development in low-middle income countries and has led to significant personal and professional development opportunities. Most noted tangible gains include the mentoring of former CWOB representatives into the inaugural Women's Big Bash League (WBBL), leadership opportunities within local Cricket clubs and teams, advanced skill development and coaching, as well as several participants undertaking the newly fostered `Cricket Without Borders-Cricket Japan internship program'.

Outcomes contributing to global game development include a Japanese national player representing Prahran CC in Melbourne, Cricket Fiji increasing their national women's playing roster, significant equipment upgrades in Fiji and the development of Cricket NT who participated in their inaugural 2016 Australian Country Cricket Championships. While intangible goals surround the breaking down of barriers for girls in the region to become involved in cricket, promotion of disabilities cricket, women's empowerment, equality promotion and individual development of all the young women involved. 

OUR FUTURE
Less than a year after Fiji, Cricket Without Borders is at it again, invited by the International Cricket Council to compete alongside Japan, PNG and Samoa in the ICC East Asia-Pacific Women’s Trophy in Apia, Samoa in July 2016. CWOB will be taking a composite representative team of young Women from around Victoria to compete. For many, the tournament represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to compete in a global ICC event. CWOB will also use the event as a platform to promote female youth involvement in Cricket in Samoa through tournament participation, school visits, participation in Australian Government public health promotion programs, equipment donations, as well as fostering linkages between Samoan national women’s side and Melbourne based clubs.

As a not-for-profit organisation, the girls chosen to make up the CWOB side for past tours, as well as the upcoming Samoan Development tour are predominantly self-funded. While we do our best to keep costs to a minimal through sponsorship, CWOB seeks donations of any nature to go directly to offsetting the total per player costs for the girls for such a fantastic professional and personal development opportunity for all.
