History - The 10th Tee Gazebo (Halfway House) was constructed in 1997. It was erected as a memorial to Phil Connelly, a popular member of the Club who passed away in 1996. Di and Bill Ackland kindly donated the money to fund its construction.

The structure, which is now 25 years old, and is in need of major upgrading to meet the changing requirements of the Club and its members.

The Future - The proposed new structure will meet the changing demands of our members and provides an opportunity to improve the member experience. A multi-purpose facility is proposed for the area, offering an array of services that are in line with the high expectations for our facilities, both on and off the course. As a result, the Committee of Management intends to seek donations from Members to assist in the funding of this new facility.

With the support of the Connelly and Ackland families, the Club intends to retain the Pavilion as a memorial to Phil Connelly, but will also include a special “Donor Wall” with the names of Members who donate to this special project.

Location - Replacing the current gazebo, the Lone Pine Pavilion will sit between the 8th and 10th Tees overlooking the 9th Green. The floor will be raised slightly to provide a great viewing area of all the surrounding holes.

Purpose - This updated facility will provide a half way house for our Members, along with improved service facilities for Member competitions, Pennant matches, corporate days and other activities.

The new Lone Pine Pavilion will include the following:

  • 3 x toilets
  • Service Area with opening to the front section of the Pavilion with use as follows:
    • Staffed on Wednesdays and Saturdays on a trial basis. Note that the venue must be staffed if alcohol is to be purchased.
    • Self-service ALL other days for food and non-alcoholic drinks
    • Seating area that can be utilised by Members at times
  • Feature shutters along the western side protecting from the sun.
  • 1 x store room housing a BBQ along with chairs etc
  • Filtered water and a vending machine in the corridor to ensure availability at all times

Donor Recognition - Members wishing to donate towards this special project will be acknowledged through the Club Annual Report, Club website and invited to the special opening of the new Lone Pine Pavilion. Any donations will be gratefully accepted and recognised. Donations of $10,000 or more will be recognised by way of a “Donor Wall”. Your name will be etched into artwork providing permanent recognition of your contribution to the Club.

Tax deductible donations can be made through the Australian Sports Foundation in support of this special project.

Lone Pine Name - Lone Pine Pavilion is named in honour of the men and women that have served our country. Lone Pine Ridge was the scene of one of the bloodiest and most successful battles of the Gallipoli campaign. It has become a legend of the Australian nation. 3,000 of the 4,000 Australians involved were killed. Seven won the Victoria Cross.

The Aleppo Pine, that’s stands next to our 10th Tee, was grown from a seed directly related to the Pine on that ridge in Gallipoli. It was presented to Glenelg Golf Club by the Anzac Trophy Committee and planted on Anzac Day 1997. A plaque sits below the tree commerating the event. Lone Pine Pavilion will sit alongside the Aleppo Pine beside our 10th Tee.
