Even Dreams cost Money

FOR every Sally Pearson or Emma McKeon, there are athletes like Jayden Lawrence or Barak Mizrachi. While our country’s biggest stars remain focused solely on their Commonwealth Games campaigns, 11 Australian athletes are locked in a battle for funding. The group, including wrestler Lawrence and table tennis player Mizrachi, have each registered fundraising projects with the Australian Sports Foundation (ASF) to help cover their Games expenses. Beki Smith, Jessica Trengrove, Madeline Hills, Rhydian Cowley, Marty Jackson and Victoria Mitchell (athletics), as well as Annabelle Smith (diving), Stephanie Davies (weightlifting), Matt Levy (swimming) and Connor Evans (wrestling) are other athletes hoping for public support. “These 11 athletes don’t receive vast sums of money via grants and sponsorships,” ASF chief executive Patrick Walker said.
