Football to grow in Townsville

23 February 2017

Earlier this year the grants for our Giving4Grassroots ‘Active Adults’ round were distributed to some very deserving clubs, teams and communities.

The criteria for our ‘Active Adults’ grant program was that the programs funded must aim to increase participation in grassroots and community sport at every level from juniors to adult.

Bellbowrie’s International Indigenous Football Academy were granted $5000 though Giving4Grassroots and will use the money to give young people in Townsville direct access to an innovative new soccer clinic.

The IIFA six-week clinic for young people will aim at building leadership and increasing engagement skills through soccer. The football academy founder Lorraine Amede and director Juanita Wanda Halden met with Senior Aunties, key community stakeholders and members of the Townsville City Council to discuss details for the football clinic.

It is hoped that by engaging children in sport from a young age they will carry the healthy habits on through their adult life and consequently become positive role models for others in the community.
