Funds needed for babysitters

Lyndhurst Football and Netball Club have just started a very unique project – crowdsourcing to cover the cost of babysitting so that the mums on the football team can play.

The 2017 Lyndhurst women’s football team is competing in the Southern Football Netball League and the club are determined that a lack of evening and weekend childcare shouldn’t stop mothers from playing sport.

The club are aiming to raise up to $26,000 which would fund about 15 hours of baby sitting a week for seven or eight children. Club president Andrew King said

“There should be no barriers stopping women from playing football…We are trying to make it as easy as possible for women to play.”

Research from VicSport shows women in their 20s and 30s are less likely to play competitive sport than other adults. Mum of three Kelly Baker from Cranbourne East said the possibility of babysitting made her sign up to play football for the first time as her husband works overtime on the weekends and babysitting would give her the option to play on Saturday.

This is the first fundraising project through the Foundation of it’s kind – raising money for childcare so that women can play.
