We have an exciting opportunity for a sports-loving, commercially minded and self-motivated professional to become our first permanent representative in WA.

Background

The Australian Sports Foundation’s role is to raise money for sport via donations from private and corporate Australia. Our unique offering in this space is our ability to provide a tax deduction for donations to sport.

We were established in 1986 and since then have helped fundraise around $350m to date. In the last three years we have expanded rapidly, growing funds raised from $17m in 2014 to a record $44.75m in 2017.

Our fundraising partners come from every level of sport – from national and professional teams, to state and local sports and community clubs and schools in every state and territory. Our head office is in Canberra and, in 2015/16, we established satellite offices in Sydney and Brisbane – we are now ready to take on the great Western state!

Donations to sport in WA lag behind almost every other State and Territory in Australia – just $1.2m was raised for WA sport in 2017, about the same as the ACT and much less than SA ($2.6m), Queensland ($4.25m), NSW ($7m) or – the star performer – Victoria (a massive $28m!).

We believe a permanent local presence in WA, embedded within the local sports community and working with stakeholders will grow fundraising for sport in WA.

The role

This flexible role would suit either a full-time or a part-time (3 or 4 days a week) applicant, who loves sport and is comfortable working with elite and professional sports and grassroots clubs and community organisations.

If you have a background in sponsorship, sales or marketing, an ability to develop long-term commercial relationships, and the drive, hunger and ambition to make a real difference to Australian sport, then we want to hear from you!

Experience in or a good knowledge of the WA sports environment would be an advantage.

Position details

You will be reporting to the National Sales and Partnerships Director, with the key role of growing our profile among the WA sporting community, and assisting clubs and sports in establishing fundraising programs. Key tasks will include:

  • Building relationships with key sporting stakeholders in WA (eg Department of Sports and Recreation, WA Sports Federation, WA Institute of Sport) in order to promote Sports Foundation services.
  • Building relationships with key sporting organisations in WA, including professional clubs, and national and state sporting organisations.
  • Providing advice to sporting organisations on approaches to fundraise via private and corporate donations (training will be provided).
  • Promoting the role of the Sports Foundation.

You will need to be self-motivated and have a track record for working autonomously without day to day supervision.

The role will be based in office facilities to be provided by WA Sport & Rec and will involve travel both within WA and interstate.
