Kira-Lea beats cancer and is US bound to tackle gridiron

Only a year after overcoming a serious battle with cancer which saw Kira-Lea Dargin-Barsukoff completely house bound, some days not even wanting to get out of bed, the Sydney mum is heading to the US to play in the female equivalent of the NFL.

Dargin-Barsukoff joined an Australian NFL team as part of her rehabilitation and will now move her young family to Philadelphia and local side the Phantomz. The NFL season goes for 5 months after which Dargin-Barsukoff will move back to Australia to play in their season, and back and forth.

She is fundraising for $15k through the Sports Foundation to cover costs in the move and living overseas. Her mindset in taking the leap to moving overseas with her family was “What’s the worse that can happen?”
