New Foundation to make a real difference to grass roots football
23 November 2016
AFL Tasmania has announced an exciting new initiative that will provide direct financial support to the traditional heartlands of Tasmanian football.
The Tasmanian Football Foundation was formally announced at a launch today in Campbell Town and has been hailed as a ground-breaking program by AFL Tasmania Chief Executive, Rob Auld:
“We are thrilled to launch the Foundation today,” Rob Auld said.
“It is a landmark commitment from AFL Tasmania to unite and grow all levels of our game across Tasmania.”
“The Foundation will enable us to support grassroots and community football projects as well as delivering significant Statewide outcomes to our game.” Auld added.
The Foundation will be administered by AFL Tasmania in conjunction with the Australian Sports Foundation who currently partners with all 18 AFL clubs as well as other peak sports organisations around the country. Through the ASF fund raising programs provide tax deductibility on donations to the Foundation.
“We are launching a range of fundraising programs that will be of interest and impact the vast majority of football fans,” Rob Auld said.
“Initially we will be putting a lot of emphasis on expat Tasmanians who have expressed a strong desire to find a way to give back to the game that they grew up playing and supporting in their local Tasmanian suburbs and towns.”
“We have done a lot of preliminary work in this area and the interest has been really strong, we are really excited about the level of expectation coming through expat support,” Auld added.
With AFL Tasmania managing and administering the Foundation the support of a highly credentialed Advisory Board to be chaired by Tasmanian footy’s favourite son, Peter Hudson provides great credibility and local connections.
Hudson will be joined on the Advisory Board by other Melbourne-based Tasmanians James Henderson and Matthew Richardson as well as local AFL, sports, government and community leaders Rob Auld, Kate Kent, Paul Sproule, Trisha Squires and Errol Stewart.
“I am extremely honoured to have been asked by the Directors to Chair the Advisory Board of the Tasmanian Football Foundation,” Peter Hudson said.
“This is an entity capable of harnessing the passion for AFL football of all Tasmanians either here in Tasmania or those that have left the state. Our charter is to protect and build the future of our game and that requires real focus and attention to the traditional AFL heartlands.”
“We all have an obligation as well as an opportunity to make a real difference to what our game looks like in 20 to 50 years’ time,” Hudson added.
The Foundation will be making a series of further announcements over the coming weeks as it rolls out its fundraising program for 2017.
“The formation of the Tasmanian Football Foundation is the result of more than 12 months of work, preceding my time as CEO, and I want to thank the many people who have driven its creation.” Rob Auld said.
