The first Inaugural BIG SIX was on 14th February 1979. The concept was the idea of previous member Glenn Stewart.

The meeting drew an amazing crowd, filled with community members of all ages. Some impressive performances were witnessed, including, the most impressive and outstanding competitor, Colleen Beazley (now Pekin) raced over 100m in 11.5 seconds to demoralise her opposition. While Alec Brown was named the best men’s performer when he put the shot 15.78m. The Big 6 has come along way fields being filled with Olympians and commonwealth games athletes.

After years of success, it was decided that this was a fantastic pathway to showcase to our Little members what you can achieve. The big 6 is now a show case event at a UWA Little Athletics meet, whereby the senior UWA club invites the top 6 athletes to compete across a number of events. This has become the UWA's biggest community event. 

This years Big 6 is going to be a BIG one! It will be one of the biggest events the club has ever held, attracting interstate athletes to compete, offering higher than ever prize money, stalls and food trucks. With inclusion of All comers community 4 by 100m Relay to contend for the Wheeler-Foreman Trophy.

The big 6 will be held on Saturday, 23 November 2024, from 4pm-9pm. 

Events include:

• Elimination Mile men and women
• Long Jump (Men)
• 300m men and women
• Shot put (men)
• High Jump (women)
• Inter code UWA 4 by 100m Relay
• Para 100m
• 60m men and women

So that we can make this our biggest big 6 ever we need the communities support to be able to provide the biggest prize pool ever. This prize money goes directly to support track and field athletes to support them in their season. This is particularly important given the very little financial support available for track and field athletes.

For business's that are willing to sponsor the event we have a quarterly newsletter that is circulated to 3000 people as well as placing your logo on our website with an email sent to our members advising of a new sponsor. You will be heavily advertised prior, during and post the event.
