Ada Mackie is an emerging talent in the sport of Canoe Slalom.

She has grown dramatically in the last year, with her continued growth and results in the Oceania and Australia Open tournaments resulting in selection for the Australian National Junior Canoe Slalom team.

Her recent results include:

  • Bronze for U18 Women's K1 in the Australian Open championships Penrith, January 2024.
  • Silver in the U18 Women’s Kayak Cross at the Oceania championships, Penrith, January 2024.
  • Bronze in U18 Women’s K1 and C1 categories at the 2024 Age Nationals, Eildon January 2024.
  • Gold for Open Kayak Cross at the Australian Nationals, Bradys Lake, April 2024.
  • Gold for Open Women’s K1 Slalom, C1 Slalom and C1 Sprint at the NSW Combined High School’s Championships, Mann River, May 2024

These improving results have come from her dedication to training for the support, training multiple times a day for 6 out of 7 days. This is all while balancing Year 11 at school, getting her driving licence and contributing to the family home.

Ada is very grateful for all the coaching she has received over the years from supportive coaches and athletes. When she can, she continues to pay it forward by supporting younger paddlers with coaching and encouragement. Ada is a great role model for younger athletes.

There are many costs associated with competing in Canoe Slalom. Junior athletes must contribute several thousands of dollars to compete in the world championships. The equipment is expensive ($2-$5K for a near-new or new boat), and attending competitions across the eastern half of the country requires significant travel. Thus far we have happily covered these costs, however with her campaign going international and with requests to contribute, we are opening this fundraiser for others to directly support Ada’s ongoing growth and success. Our fundraising target equates to her costs to travel to Europe and related equipment costs for 2024.

Ada travels in June to Europe to begin her lead-up training for the world championships. She will be capturing her journey on her social media accounts. We also plan to keep supporters up to date with her with her campaign for the remainder of 2024 and 2024/25 Australian summer season.

From Ada and her family, we thank you for your support!
