Hello, my name is Andy Donaldson and I'm a ultra-marathon swimmer based in Perth, Western Australia. Since August 2022, I've been attempting to swim the world's 7 toughest channels, known collectively as the Oceans Seven, to raise money for Mental Health.
My goal has been to complete these swims within a year, aiming to finish by the end of July 2023. It's been an incredible journey so far, with plenty of opportunities for learning and personal growth along the way. And from a swimming point of view, I've also been fortunate to set a few records too.
Looking ahead, I have two swims scheduled for July and I'd love to continue this journey and fullfill my commitment to supporting Mental Health. As many of you may know with channel swimming, (e.g. English Channel and Rottnest ), there are immense financial and logistical demands involved.
And since the beginning, I have self-funded and arranged all aspects of this Oceans Seven journey. Regrettably, I have reached a point where I can no longer sustain this, and I humbly seek financial assistance.
I am looking for $10,000 to help me with the cost of these last two swims. These would be used to cover skipper, travel, and accomodation expenses. Any contributions made towards this would mean the world to me.
If the targeted amounts above are met, any funds in excess of these will be allocated to the Black Dog Institute. Moreover, if expenditure is less than budgeted, excess amounts will also be donated to the charity.
Thank you once again for your time and consideration. This challenge ultimately serves to support Mental Health and raise funds for the Black Dog Institute. Additional details regarding the challenge and the cause can be found below.
The Global Challenge
Mental illness is an issue that knows no boundaries. It affects people from all walks of life and today, it stands as one of the great global challenges we face.
Having personally experenced my own struggles with mental health, and having lost friends to suicide, this cause holds a special place in my heart.
By supporting the cause of Mental Health and the Black Dog Institute, we can strive to make a difference for those affected now, and for generations to come.
Goals
To help raise awareness and rally support for this critical issue, I have set myself ambitious goals for the Oceans Seven:
- To complete all seven swims within a single year (this would be a world first)
- To break the world record for fastest combined time (currently 64 hours 35 minutes held by Hungarian Attila Manyoki)
