Blind Sports Australia has recently announced the roll out of a national program to develop blind football across the country and the creation of national teams to compete on the international stage. This will be a new opportunity for people who are blind or vision impaired across Australia to play football and represent their country in a sport they love.
Blind football (B1) is played by athletes who are totally blind, it is a Paralympic sport and has World and Regional Championships. Partially sighted football (B2/B3) is played by athletes who have a vision impairment and has World and Regional Championships. Both of our teams are aiming to play in international tournaments in 2018.
We will be hosting national camps in 2018, which are a great platform to fast track player, coach, referee and volunteer development. These camps will provide a pathway for our elite players to represent their country and test themselves on the international stage at tournaments in Asia in 2018. By reducing the costs associated with travelling to these camps and tournaments will knock down a barrier for players to accept these fantastic opportunities.
We want to put blind football on the map in Australia and we need your help to make this a reality.
