Sam’s perseverance, determination and hard work to field hockey has finally paid off with his selection for Australia in the Hockey Australia U21s Country Team.

Sam started playing hockey with Redlands Hockey Association when he was 9 years old and has represented Redlands at U11s, U13s, U15s and U18s state championships.

Due to the lack of turf facilities in the Redlands, Sam made the move to Roosters Hockey Club at Gold Coast Hockey to further develop his skills. He played both grass at Redlands and turf at Gold Coast until 2019, when he moved to Gold Coast and Bulimba Hockey Club.

Sam has represented Gold Coast Hockey at U15s, U18s and at Hockey Queensland Opens championships. He has also represented the Metropolitan East region in primary and secondary schoolboy championships.

This year Sam played for Queensland at the Australian Country Championships in Shepparton, Victoria where he was selected for the U21s Hockey Australia Country Team.

Sam has dedicated a considerable amount of his life to hockey and his dedication and hard work has finally paid off with his selection in an Australian team.

He is incredibly proud to be representing Australia and participating in this amazing opportunity. This is the chance of a lifetime, but it is also self-funded. For a full-time uni student, this is a significant expense.
