The Australian Flying Disc Association Ltd’s (AFDA) is recognised by the Australian Sports Commission as the national sporting organisation for Flying Disc sports, including Ultimate and Disc Golf. AFDA is preparing to send Junior Open and Junior Women’s national teams to compete at the 2024 World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC) to be held 20-27 July 2024 in Birmingham, United Kingdom. This event is held every two years and is coordinated by Ultimate’s international governing body, the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF), who are recognised by the International Olympic Committee.
A total of 44 athletes have been selected for this campaign across the Open’s (Aussie Thunder) and Women’s (Southern Terra) teams, along with 9 volunteer staff members.
The Australian Junior Ultimate Teams are actively seeking team and individual sponsorships to support them to help decrease the financial burden of playing an elite sporting discipline that receives no government funding.
Ultimate frisbee or disc - sometimes also referred to as 'Flying Disc' - is a mixed or split gender, non-contact sport that combines strategies from AFL, netball, American Football and Touch Football to produce an exciting and skillful game played with a disc. Ultimate is self-refereed and relies heavily on principles of equity, inclusiveness, transparent communication and conflict resolution. The Australian Flying Disc Association (AFDA) is recognised by the Australian Sports Commission, however competing at an international level is fully funded by the athletes themselves. AFDA is the peak organisation for disc sport in Australia with Ultimate having been played in Australia since 1976.
AFDA believes that everyone should be able to participate in sport and physical activity in a welcoming and inclusive way - regardless of gender, sexual orientation, ability, cultural background, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status.
