About the project

Avalon Sailing Club is a family-oriented sailing club, located at Clareville, on Pittwater.

Founded in 1938, the Club has a proud history of offering a small, friendly environment for people of all ages and sailing interests. The Club promotes all aspects of sailing: dinghy racing, yacht racing and cruising and just having fun in boats.

The Club’s current rescue boat is a rigid inflatable boat (RIB) known as Red RIB.

This was originally a support boat for the Sydney Olympics. It was acquired by the Club at the conclusion of the event, so it now over 20 years old and is very much on its last legs.

The Club has decided to replace Red RIB and has ordered a new RIB that will be delivered in time for the new sailing season.

This project has been set up to raise funds to purchase the RIB and support its ongoing maintenance.

Benefits of a RIB

Red RIB is the primary rescue and training vehicle for the community sail training activities of the Avalon Sailing Club.

For similar reasons to surf club inflatables, RIBs are preferred for dinghy sailing clubs for ease of safe recovery of persons in the water.

They are also most suitable for training purposes as small boats can be pulled alongside for instruction without damage.

A RIB is typically more stable both underway and when at rest, allowing operators to perform their duties more successfully.

Your donation will make a difference

Your donation will:

  • Help purchase the new RIB that is the primary rescue and training vessel for the Club.
  • Ensure the success of our sail training programmes.
  • Enable the Club to offer improved sail training, powerboat training and support for yacht crews.

We have set a goal of $60,000 to be raised. This will cover the purchase of the RIB and ancillary costs.
