Boondall Figure Ice Skating Club

Boondall Figure Ice Skating Club

Boondall Figure Ice Skating Club (BFISC) has been supporting and developing its skaters since 1995. Our home rink is located in the northern suburbs of Brisbane at Iceworld Olympic Ice Rink, 2304 Sandgate Rd, Boondall Qld, 4034. We are affiliated with Ice Skating Queensland which is the governing body for figure skating in Queensland and our members range from Aussie Skate levels through to Junior and Senior levels in figure skating, ice dance and pairs. Many of our skaters have reached levels qualifying them to represent Queensland and Australia in National and International competition. The main expenses we face as a club are paying for our 'Ice Time', when hosting a competition (4 comps per year approx $3000.00 in Ice Time per comp) so approx $12000.00/year and also Travel Subsidies for skating members to be able to travel interstate and or overseas. Previously we have spent: • In 2013 $11,125.00 - ($7300.00 Domestic Travel and $3825.00 International Travel), • in 2014 $9145.00 - ($5400.00 Domestic Travel and $3745.00 International). For this the current season 2015/2016, Ice Skating Australia have recently adjusted/lowered the qualifying scores required for Skaters to be selected for International Representation. Whilst this is fantastic for more opportunities for our skating members, it creates the issue that our small club cannot afford to subsidise the increased numbers of possible travelling skaters. Our membership base is on the increase, in 2013 we had 122 members, in 2014 we had 127 members and for 2015 we currently have approx 137 members currently. 82 of these are Skating members. The best opportunity for growth is through competition. We as a club would love to be able to assist our skating families with the costs associated with travel both interstate and internationally. Competitions interstate and internationally are the best way for a skater to be able to gage where their progress is at. To compete in front of interstate and international judging panels gives the best feedback, experience and growth opportunities to the skater. The more we can provide to assist our skating families with the associated costs of travel, the more the skater will benefit.
