The Boxing Australia High Performance Program competes in global benchmark boxing events and is aimed at developing elite boxers through international camps and competitions. Boxers in the program identified by their performance at an Australian Championships and are then selected to join the National Team and represent Australia at international events.
In 2020, the High Performance Program is focused on preparing our boxers to compete at Olympic Qualification Events to earn their way to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and then preparing any boxers who do qualify for the Games itself.
Our Boxers
All of our athletes who are vying for a spot in Tokyo compete as amateurs, meaning they are not paid for the time they spend training for their sport. Many of our athletes devote their lives to trying to make it to the Olympics, training 6 days a week, 3 sessions a day, with only a select few athletes making it.
The months leading up to the Olympic Games require the most commitment from an athlete, with an increased training load, travel for international training camps, and time spent away from home,Β their jobs and education. All of these take a heavy financial and emotional toll on the athletes.
Jason Mallia - "Juggling the workload of being an elite athlete and running my business can be very stressful and expensive, having to pay someone to cover my classes while I compete overseas. Extra funding to the National Team would give me the financial freedom to focus more on my training and preparation for international tournaments".
Brandon Rees - "As an athlete from Western Australia, we must travel the furthest, with most Australian boxing tournaments occurring along the East Coast or internationally. This high amount of travel incurs a high amount of cost. Extra Funding to the high performance program would allow me to attend more national and intentional boxing events, helping me to achieve my boxing dreams!".
By donating to the High Performance Program you are helping Boxing Australia to remove some of the financial burden the athletes experience, allowing them to emphasise their focus on training and performance at the Olympics.
Your donation will be used to help athletes attend the following international events/training camps:
- International Camps - India, Great Britain, USA, China
- Asia/Oceania Olympic Qualification Event - China
- World Olympic Qualification Event - Paris
- Tokyo 2020 Olympics
Our Goal
Preparing and sending our boxers to the Olympic Qualifiers will cost over $200,000, and that's just to get them qualified!
We are aiming to raise $40,000 to directly contribute to the costs of preparing boxers for the Olympic Games after they have qualified. This much needed money is for the most crucial part of a boxer's preparation as we aim to win Australia's first boxing medal in over 35 years!
Please donate now to help our athletes achieve their Olympic dreams!
