About the project
In addition to 2022, Auchenflower Stadium was also underwater in the 2011 and 1974 flood events. The cost of repairs in 2011 exceeded $1.5m and whilst BBI has not been able to fully assess the damage from this latest event as yet; it is likely to be higher than the 2011 cost of repair.
BBI is one of Brisbane’s largest grassroots sporting associations with 13 affiliated clubs and 4,391 members. With competitions held all year round, in excess of 7,500 games per year are played with more than 275,000 people visiting the Auchenflower venue a year and the stadium is also home to the Brisbane Capitals that play in the NBL1 competition.
BBI would like to send its heartfelt best wishes to its members, supporters and the broader community impacted by this latest devastating event.
“We know first-hand the emotional and financial toll a flood event of this nature has on those affected and we wish everyone impacted a speedy recovery. BBI would also like to acknowledge and show our gratitude for the overwhelming response we have had from volunteers. We are so thankful for their assistance and support” said Hamish Cain, General Manager.
