Hi, I’m Brittany, a PhD student studying Human Physiology at the University of Newcastle. I'm thrilled to share that I've been selected to represent Australia in the Women’s Ultimate Frisbee team, the Firetails, at the upcoming World Ultimate Championships in the Gold Coast from August 31st to September 7th, 2024. It's an honour to represent my country on a global stage.

However, as much as I'm excited about this opportunity, it comes with financial challenges. Ultimate Frisbee is rapidly growing but remains entirely self-funded. We play for the love of the game, not for pay or sponsorships. Competing at a high level can easily exceed $8,000, covering expenses like training, flights, accommodation, and event fees.

Your support, no matter the amount, is immensely appreciated! Thanks to the Australian Sports Foundation fundraising platform, donations of $2 or more are tax-deductible, making every contribution meaningful.

Here's a bit about my journey to Worlds: I started playing Ultimate Frisbee at university in 2015, never imagining it would lead me here. Since then, I've played in various teams across Australia and had the privilege of representing Australia in Germany (2019), the USA (2022) and the Philippines (2023). One of the most memorable moments was winning gold with the Firetails at the Asia Oceanic Ultimate Championships in the Philippines. Ultimate is an Olympic-recognised sport, known for its inclusivity and integrity, as its self-refereed.

To give you an idea of the costs involved, here's a rough breakdown:

  • $200 for uniform
  • $600 player fees for the tournament
  • $1,500 for travel and accommodation at the tournament (10 nights)
  • $3,500+ for return flights for pre-tour competition in Germany (July 12-14, 2024)
  • $300 for travel insurance
  • Approximately $2,000 for flights to team training camps (6 total in Melbourne, Sydney, and the Gold Coast)
  • Plus additional expenses for personal training/gym and countless hours of team and individual training

To help cover these costs, I've set up a fundraising page with the Australian Sports Foundation. If you're able to support my campaign, please click the link below. Remember, all donations above $2 are tax-deductible in Australia!
