Cairns Hockey has successfully raised almost all of the funds required for the Reef Pitch Artificial Surface replacement fund - we're almost there! This surface is 12 years old and is becoming a risk to members and community and will be replaced with an Olympic/International FIH certified playing surface - in a nice shade of blue! We've made the decision to proceed with the project and the excavators will be on site in early September and we're calling on supporters to help us get over the line with the last piece of the required funding. We will be establishing a 'Legacy Wall' where all donors over $1000 will have their name recorded and visible to all who walk past the Reef turf. Please note all donations are tax deductible and your support of the Cairns Hockey community is much appreciated. Thank You.
- Cairns Hockey have committed to replace the Reef Turf playing surface and have successfully raised most of the $700,000 required to complete this major project and are now seeking the assistance of supporters to raise the balance of funding which is approximately $60,000. This surface is 12 years old and is becoming a risk to members and community. We need your help - donations are tax deductible.
- Reef Turf Replacement is of paramount importance - it is one of two water based artificial pitches (with approved lighting) maintained at our facilities.
- Rainforest Pitch was replaced in 2015 using Association funds
- Well conditioned support grass fields.
- Location: North Cairns, 2kms from the airport, 4kms from the CBD, 365 Lake Street, Cairns, 4870.
- New $2.7m Clubhouse and Member Amenities: AV facilities, warm-up areas, parking, spectator seating and viewing mounts, security fenced were completed in April 2019 with the support of the Australian Government.
- Queensland Government funded additional upgrades to the old clubhouse area to support social change programs, increased participation and inclusion programs and these were completed in 2020.
- Cairns Regional Council provides support to our members and our growing national and international quality facilities.
EVENTS
- Each year Cairns Hockey supports the local economy by hosting school, regional, state and national events bring injections into the community min $7million dollars each year.
- For Cairns Hockey to continue supporting the community and its members in a positive way, the Reef Pitch must be replaced now
SOCIAL CHANGE/INCLUSION AND COMMUNITY
- Cairns Hockey is active in the community using sport to drive positive social change.
- This is done through out internationally recognized Aspire to be Deadly Program and locally through inclusive and advancing school programs.
- Unless we get the funding to replace Reef Pitch, Cairns Hockey budgets will need to be significantly reviewed and support diminished.
