Cameron competes in his chosen sport of Karate.

Karate, whilst a popular sport, lacks the funding from government and industry to allow athletes to train and develop in an elite environment. Costs are almost entirely paid for by the athlete and their families. Grants that are available, cover very little of the costs associated. Access to the industry professionals and facilities required for this level of training are not free.

Cameron has just been selected to represent Australia in the 2024 Commonwealth Karate Championships to be held in Bangladesh in September 2024. To assist we are fundraising to get funds in order to facilitate an elite training program to cover personal training, coaching, physio, travel, accommodation and entry to the tournament.

To give a little history...

In 2022, after winning the Victorian State Championships, Cam set his sights on winning the 2022 Australian Open with the hope to achieve National selection to represent Australia in the 2022 Oceania Tournament and the WKF World Youth Championships. Before being able to compete in the Open, he received news he had sustained a bi-lateral fracture in his spine. Cam missed the Australian Open and his opportunity for selection for Australia.

After a slow and steady recovery Cam, with only 2 weeks training, finished third in the 2022 Australian National Championships.

In May 2023 Cam gained selection to represent Australia in the 2023 Cadet & Junior Oceania Championships in Australia after winning the 2023 State Championships in his age division.

Cam has now moved up a division to the Under 21's, where the competition takes the next step into an elite area, being up against much older and more developed athletes. Despite the challenges of managing his ongoing back injury Cam has trained hard and gained selection again to represent Australia.
