The Cleve Sporting Bodies has launched this fundraising appeal to help build a new multi-function community sports centre.
The original facility was damaged in January 2016 when a storm hit Cleve, causing extensive structural damage and water damage. Since then, the centre has been out of use, with sporting clubs and other user groups forced to use other, often inadequate and impractical facilities.
The plan for the new facility is to have a single story, with a large main activity area, and an industrial kitchen able to cater for 180 to 250 people, with windows for viewing sports on both the oval and courts.
The project is set to cost $1.446 million, with the Cleve Sporting Bodies set to contribute $400,000 cash, which includes $292,000 from the insurance, plus in-kind work from volunteer groups for work up to $56,000.
The organisation has applied for a $50,000 grant from the Australian Football League and will also apply for other State and Federal major infrastructure grants as they become available.
The District Council of Cleve has agreed to a one-off capital contribution of $250,000 subject to the Cleve Sporting Bodies Inc successfully obtaining a major grant.
This community fundraising appeal run in partnership with the Australian Sports Foundation aims to raise at least another $50,000. All donations will be recognised on a permanent honour board in the new clubrooms.
