Why do we need a new roller and what do we want to buy?

Darley Cricket Club is based in Bacchus Marsh Victoria and our 7 senior sides including U17 & U15 play in the Ballarat Cricket Association competition. Our 6 remaining junior sides 3 x U13 + 3 x U11 play in the Western Junior Cricket Association competition, whilst our Senior Women's team competes in the Gisborne District Cricket Association.

We have the only turf wicket in the Moorabool Shire, which stretches from the western boundary of Melton to the eastern boundary of Ballarat. Our current roller is over 30 years old and presents an OHS issue - no motor cut off and guidance by muscle power. We need to update to look after our long serving volunteer ground staff, who produce the best pitches in the competition and are not getting any younger.

We want to replace it with a new Mentay 2000 Roller that addresses the OHS issues and will allow our Volunteers to prepare a wicket in comfort. This is a ride on Roller that includes modern safety features and provides mechanical guidance.

The total cost of the new roller and a storage container to house it in securely will be $37500

We have been raising funds through various means - raffles; grants and sponsorship but these efforts have been nullified by the effects of Covid and the rebuilding of the clubrooms at Darley Park which had a detrimental effect on the club's revenue streams for Seasons 21/22 & 22/23.

We have been very fortunate to receive a grant of $20000 from the local Bendigo Bank in Bacchus Marsh.

This fundraising target of $17500 will enable us to secure the required monies to fully fund the new roller and suitable storage facility.
