About the project

Our project is to purchase a new "tinny" to replace our current rescue boat.

The current boat has been in service since 1976 (with multiple motors), but is suffering severe corrosion. The boat is an essential component of the club’s operation and is used on a weekly basis to ensure safety of the people sailing, predominantly junior members. It is also used in teaching juniors to sail, and for rescuing members of the public who get into trouble in our part of the river. We anticipate purchasing a Quintrex 440 Renegade with a centre console, however the final purchasing decision will depend on where we can get the best deal.

About Deviot Sailing Club

Deviot Sailing Club is a community dinghy sailing club on the Tamar River and supports a wide range of dinghy classes including Mirror, Sabre, 505, Hobie 16 and Nacra 5. The club has a family focus and seeks to provide fun events rather than highly competitive activities. The club is entirely managed by volunteers and has about 100 members. The club conducts an annual beginners learn to sail course for new members, and several Discover Sailing days to introduce the community members to sailing.

The Deviot Sailing Club Foundation was established to provide the facilties and equipment to support the development of sailing at Deviot. We need to:
  • maintain and improve our clubhouse,
  • provide boats for junior training and motor boats for safety and event management.
In the first instance, funds raised will be used to purchase a new rescue boat. This will be replacing our current boat "Bramble" which has given excellent service over several decades. In the longer term the club would like to expand its fleet of training boats, with the purchase of Optimist dinghies and Pacers.

Our clubrooms are also in need of maintenance and improvement, and in the longer term funds raised through the Foundation will be used to address this.
