Fortitude Amateur Boxing Club for 2 years has been sending top International and Australian Boxing Coaches to remote and regional Queensland to support young First Nations people gain access to the same quality of coaching and support that coastal Queensland has access too. Led by Justin Hodges, First Nations NRL Legend, Stephen Deller, Boxing Hall of Famer, who has trained more Aussie champions, Erik Sokolov, German Junior Olympian, Fortitude brings the young boxers and their coaches to Brisbane once a year for a one week intensive training camp, exposing them to not just leading coaches, but also important First Nations Elders such as Syl Johns and his Warrior Program. Syl takes the young boxers onto a 4 days journey in the evenings to re-discover their cultural identity and history. Along the way they also rub shoulders with leading First Nations athletes, community leaders and meet "In the Ring" to talk about life and the challenges of being young First Nations person and the difficulties of living away from the coastal areas and lack of access to facilities what many in S E Queensland take for granted.
