Frankston Basketball in partnership with Frankston City Council; the state government of Victoria; and the Australian Federal Government have commenced detailed design work in preparation for construction scheduled to commence in early 2017 on Stage 1 works of the expansion at Frankston Basketball Stadium (90 Bardia Avenue, Seaford  VIC 3198).

Stage 1 works will include the construction of an additional four (4) courts including a 2,000 seat show court at the current six (6) court Frankston basketball stadium. The project will also deliver:

  • increased administrative space
  • refurbished amenities & change-rooms
  • increased car parking and bus access
  • improved food & beverage and retail functionality.

Over the last four (4) years Frankston Basketball has engaged all tiers of government to demonstrate the requirement for more indoor basketball courts to be built in the Frankston municipality due to the continued growth in basketball participation in the Frankston region.

This need was confirmed in Frankston City's 2013 Frankston Basketball Stadium Expansion Feasibility analysis conducted by independent consultants and Frankston City's Sport Development Plan 2014 - 2019.

In partnership between three (3) tiers of government (Frankston City $4m; Australian Federal Government $4.95mState Government of Victoria $2.5m) and Frankston Basketball ($1m)$12.45million has been committed to commence Stage 1 works. A further $250,000 was achieved for the project's retractable seating during July 2016 federal election taking the total project budget to $12.7m.

Peddle Thorp Architects have been appointed as lead design consultants with detailed design work underway. The project's builder will be appointed in late 2016 with major construction works scheduled to commence in early-2017.
