Giants Softball Club are one of Gawler's oldest softball clubs having been formed in 1987, and still working hard towards improving our club equipment and infrastructure for the current and future generations of softballers in our local area. We are lucky to be part of the Gawler & Districts Softball Association where the first stage of a fantastic redevelopment at Karbeethan Reserve has delivered a brilliant new softball diamond with more exciting work to come. Our current fundraising goal is the purchase of an enclosed trailer to aid in the safe storage and transportation of all club equipment, and provide better visibility to our sport, our club and our sponsors with the exterior of the trailer to also serve as mobile advertising as it travels.

Currently all gear is required to be transported in coaches’ personal vehicles, some with major space restrictions, and spend the off-season stored in a committee member’s shed or carport. Over the years this has led to inconvenience to our members, lost items, water damage and the ongoing replacement of equipment eating into funds that could be allocated elsewhere for our members. It also makes transportation of major training aids such as our pitching machine and nets difficult as they are quite bulky and heavy and as such are rarely used due to the effort, strength and space required to load and transport them in cars.

Attracting sponsors to a lesser known sport is often challenging, and with the added benefit of being able to promote sponsors out on the road, we expect to be able to offer a better return for investment in our club - which will lead to the development of better programs, access to better equipment, reduction in costs to members, and a stronger club for everyone.

Earlier this season one of our major fundraisers in the hosting of the canteen across two weeks at GDSA was impacted heavily by the cancellation of all games during the first week due to inclement weather, followed by the electrical failure in the kitchen that evening leading to the required replacement of all refrigerated and frozen goods for the following week. What was to be one of the biggest fundraisers of the season became a race to break even and a very disheartening time for our hardworking volunteers.

Other initiatives throughout the season were our popular 45 Club fundraiser run over 10 weeks raising $535, and a partnership with the Gawler South Bakery which was popular, adding $225.10 to the tally. We held a Trivia Night in March 2024 to finish off the season and boost our fundraising total and with a great night we all had a laugh, promoted our club, celebrated the camaraderie within our sport, and raised $1500 towards our goal.

We are now launching this platform to help members keep track of our progress towards making our club trailer a reality.
