The Future Champion initiative will support Gold Coast athletes at the grassroots level, offset the cost of venue usage, uniforms, camps and the many skill development components provided to our regions up and coming athletes. Since 2009 the Gold Coast Academy of Sport has positioned itself to address this unmet need, serving as a crucial stepping stone between grassroots sports participation and the higher echelons of elite competition represented by organisations like the Queensland Academy of Sport. Our programs target the middle tiers of the government's sports development system, complementing the work of the Queensland Academy of Sport, which typically focuses on the highest-performing athletes.

Unlike the well-funded sports development initiatives in some other states, the Gold Coast region has traditionally lacked any government investment in grassroots and intermediate-level athlete support. The Gold Coast Academy of Sport aims to fill this void, providing a comprehensive pathway for young athletes to progress from the foundation level to the elite level of their chosen sport.

Our programs are designed to help athletes in the "Talent" phase of the FTEM(Foundation, Talent, Elite, Mastery) framework, a model developed by the Australian Institute of Sport to guide athlete development. By catering to this underserved segment of the market, we are able to foster a more inclusive and supportive sports ecosystem on the Gold Coast.

Through our holistic approach to athlete development, the Gold Coast Academy of Sport helps young sportspeople not only define their future goals, but also equips them with the skills, knowledge, and support necessary to achieve those aspirations. This focus on personal growth and well-rounded development is a unique offering in the local sports landscape, setting us apart as a vital resource for the next generation of Gold Coast sporting champions.
