Gus has been on skis since he was four years old but he really discovered his love of skiing at the age of seven when his family made the decision to manage a lodge for the winter at Mount Hotham. For the next seven winters Gus would spend mornings at school on the Mountain and from lunchtime he would ski until lifts closed.

During this time he was awarded a scholarship to train with Mount Hotham Freeski the technical training he received set him up to progress to being awarded a full Scholarship to Perisher Winter Sports club in 2018 and a scholarship to Windells Acadamy in Oregan in 2019. At Windells Gus had the opportunity to train each day and to travel with the team around the US competing. Returning to Australia he capped a great year winning Australian Junior Champion in both Slopestyle and Half pipe events.

Achievements

  • Gus won the Slopestyle event and the halfpipe event at the Australian Junior Freeride Championships in September 2019
  • Was selected for the Australian team to compete in Slopestyle, half pipe and Big Air at the Youth Olympic Games in Switzerland 2020
  • In 2018 Gus won the Australian Junior Halfpipe title and placed second in the Australian Junior Slopestyle event.
  • Gus started skiing with Mount Hotham Free Ski (MHFS) in 2014 and won a scholarship to their full winter program at the start of the 2015 season.
  • In the 2015 season he placed first in the Hotham Bread and Butter Rail Jam, the Cheese and Crackered Rail Jam, the skier cross, the Hotham Freeride and the Spring Slopestyle.
  • In 2018 Gus received a full scholarship to Perisher Winter Sports Club
  •  In 2019 Gus received a scholarship to Windells Acadamy in Oregan
  • Coach and Head of Programs at MHFS, Martin, coached Gus in moguls early in the season and the same year he entered the Junior Nationals at Buller, qualifying in 6th place and finishing in 11th place in his first taste of national competition.

Gus is passionate and dedicated and is striving to represent Australia at World championships in Georgia in 2023 and the Olympics in 2026. To do this Gus will need to train and compete in Europe during the Northern winter for the Next 4 years, primarily funding himself.

As a result, Gus is hoping to raise funds to help with these costs and would greatly appreciate any donations. So please show your support today by making a tax-deductible donation of $2 or more, through this fundraising campaign with the Australian Sports Foundation.
