Izzi Batt-Doyle - Targeting Tokyo

Izzi is an elite Australian distance runner with personal bests of 31:43 for 10,000m and 15:11 for 5,000m.

Izzi represented Australia at the 2017 and 2019 World University Games in the 10,000m where she placed 7th and 6th respectively. She is SA State Record Holder in the women’s 5,000m and 3,000m Steeplechase, #2 all-time SA woman over the 10,000m. She is the #10 Australian all-time over 10,000m, and #9 Australian all-time over 5,000m.

Izzi spent 5 years competing as a student/athlete at The University of Washington (USA). There she was a multiple All-American and school record holder at the 5,000m(i) and 10,000m. She co-founded RunAsOne with partner Riley Cocks in 2020 and helps coach and run the growing business, while also completing a PhD in Clinical Psychology with research in the field of eating disorder treatment.

Izzi’s career highlights include placing 3rd in the 10,000m at the 2019 NCAA Track & Field Championships and winning the 2019 PAC12 Conference Championship in the 10,000m. In 2020, Izzi won the SA State Road 10km Championships in 32:37, the SA State Track 10,000m Championships in 32:13, and the SA State Track 5,000m Championships where she broke the previous state record held by Lisa Ondieki that was set 25 years ago in 1995 - the year Izzi was born.

At the 2020 Zatopek 10 (held in Jan 2021), Izzi placed second in the Australian 10,000m Championships with a 30 second personal best of 31:43 to move to #10 Australian all-time and #4 on home soil. In March 2020 at the Box Hill Burn, Izzi won the 5,000m in another big personal best of 15:11, just one second away from the Olympic Automatic Qualifying Standard. This ranked Izzi #9 Australian all-time and #5 on home soil in the 5,000m. At the 2021 Australian 5,000m Championships Izzi finished second place in a strong field.

After the end of the Australian season, coming so close to Olympic Qualification, Izzi made the decision to take a risk and head overseas to chase a qualifying time. She left Australia on the 21st of May embarking on an adventure for the next 3+ months.

Her current tentative plan for the first part of her trip is:

May 29th - NGA 5,000m in Nijmegen, The Netherlands

June 6th - FBK Games 10,000m in Hengelo, The Netherlands

June 7th to July 2nd - Altitude training in St Moritz, Switzerland

Izzi’s passion and love for running is unparalleled. She is a big believer that running and exercise can have a huge impact on an individual’s happiness and well-being. As a coach and elite athlete she wants to help others to share the benefits that running can provide and educate runners on positive strategies to assist them in their running and everyday life! She hopes that her athletic journey can inspire others to pursue their goals and believe that anything is possible.
