About the project

Hello,

My name is James Willett, I am a dual Olympian Clay Target shooter.

I competed in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. I live with my wife Amy in the small town of Yarrawonga, on the Murray river in Victoria.

As well as shooting, I am currently completing a part time mature age carpentry apprenticeship with a local business, Kennedy Builders.

My goal is to represent Australia in Paris 2024 Olympics, but to get there the first part of the process is preparing to qualify for and win quota places for Australia at the next ISSF World Championships in August, or at the Oceania Championships held in November.

To continue to build and improve my own scores and performances I need to continue to attend high level competitions in Europe, where most of the worlds best competitors will be competing. This goal requires a lot of time spent overseas, where travel, accommodation and recovery costs add up.

In addition our sport is an expensive one where each time we train or compete we have to buy our ammunition and clay targets (training rounds) which we fire at.

This cost is approximately $1 per shot at most international ranges, and most days on the range I will fire at somewhere between 75 - 200 targets.

I am planning to attend extra competitions around different parts of the globe on a self funded basis, which include:

• The ISSF World Cup in Almaty, Kazakhstan

• The Grand Prix de France, to be held at Châteauroux, where the Olympics will be held for shooting.

• The British Shotgun series events,

• Italian Open Green Cup event in Umbriaverde

• additional large competitions in Italy such as the Perazzi Gran Mondiale when they fit into my schedule.

When I am back on Australian soil we also have many domestic events, which are a long drive or a flight to attend, as most are held on ranges close to the capital cities, with two major ones left this year which will be in Brisbane and Sydney. The majority of our weekend club events, which I try to attend, are held at the Melbourne ranges which are a 3 hour drive each way.

I do have a great support team around me which consists of my friends, family and sponsors, but this year will require a huge financial commitment due to spending about 20 weeks overseas in total, so I would be very appreciative of any financial support you are able to donate which will assist in contributing to the many costs involved.
