Hi! I’m Jess, I’m a high-performance squash athlete hailing from Brisbane. I’m the current Australian number one and have recently won my third consecutive national title.

A little bit about me

I began playing squash when I was a young seven year old that just wanted to copy her siblings. My family became a squash family when we moved to Brisbane, and it has stayed that way for 30 years. My mum was ‘house mum’ for many representative teams that myself and my siblings were a part of. My brother is a nationally recognised high-performance coach and referee. Squash is in our blood and has formed a huge part of my life.

Outside of squash, I have a bachelor's degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice which I worked for while competing full time on the world tour, and is an area where I would like to pursue post-squash. I am a huge advocate of mental health support and body image, especially in young people and high performance. I have been a Black Dog Institute mental health ambassador, and it is a topic I speak to often. I am passionate about equity in sport/life/work for all. I am especially passionate about highlighting the challenges that women face everyday in everyday life. I love animals (except I am an arachnophobe) and I love to be outdoors.

My Career

I knew I wanted squash to be my career when I was 12, I was a good junior and had a lot of lofty ambitions. When I was 15, part of the requirements to be selected in our world junior team was to join the Squash World Tour. So that’s what I did. By the time I was 18 years old I had cracked the top 100, and represented Australia at a junior level twice. Now at 29 I have cemented my place among the world’s best and have reached my highest world ranking of 56.

I have had the opportunity to compete all over the world and represent Australia at multiple events including the 2022 Commonwealth Games. This was a career highlight for me, and I hope to make future teams and be a part of the legacy that is Australian squash. I feel as Australia’s top female, I have a responsibility to lead the charge back into the world’s best.

It has been a long and arduous journey but I am so proud of myself for getting this far and I am excited to see what the future holds.
