My name is Jess, and I’m an elite squash athlete originally from Brisbane, though I’ve recently made the move to Amsterdam. Currently ranked as Australia’s number one female squash player, I’ve just secured my third consecutive national title.
A Little About Me
My squash journey began at the age of seven, inspired by my desire to follow in the footsteps of my siblings. Since moving to Brisbane, my family has been deeply involved in squash for over 30 years. My mum served as the 'house mum' for many representative teams, including those I was part of, and my brother has established himself as a nationally recognized high-performance coach and referee. Squash is in my blood, and it has been a central part of my life.
Beyond my squash career, I hold a bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice, which I balanced alongside full-time competition on the world tour. After my athletic career, I aim to continue in this field. I am also a strong advocate for mental health, particularly focusing on body image and mental well-being in young people and high performers. As a Black Dog Institute mental health ambassador, I regularly speak about these issues. I am passionate about equity in sports and life and work towards empowering women to overcome the unique challenges they face. When I’m not competing, I enjoy spending time outdoors and caring for animals (though I’m not a fan of spiders!).
My Career Journey
I knew from the age of 12 that I wanted squash to be my career. By 15, I joined the Squash World Tour, which was a requirement for selection to Australia’s world junior team. At 18, I had broken into the world’s top 100 and represented Australia twice at the junior level. Today, at 29, I have reached my highest world ranking of 56 and am proud to represent Australia on the global stage.
One of my career highlights was competing in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, an experience I will never forget. I am committed to continuing to represent Australia at the highest level and help lead Australian squash back to the forefront of world rankings.
How You Can Help
As you may know, squash is a critically underfunded sport, and securing financial sponsorship is a rare and difficult challenge. Any contribution you can make, big or small, would greatly support my career. Donations of $500 or more will receive a signed Australian squash shirt as a token of my gratitude.
The funds raised through this sponsorship will help cover the essential costs of my career, including travel, coaching, physiotherapy, strength and conditioning, and insurance.
If you are unable to contribute financially, I would greatly appreciate it if you could share this letter with your network.
Thank you for your consideration and support – it truly means the world to me. I look forward to seeing you on court!
