My name is Jesuye Joel Doherty, and I am a Long Jumper. Starting athletics at the beginning of 2021 and committing to it has been one of the best decisions of my life. Growing up as a migrant from Nigeria, adapting to a new environment was challenging, and pursuing athletics was initially the least of my worries. However, I gradually got involved in after-school sports like volleyball and basketball, though I never consistently stuck to one.

A friend encouraged me to sign up for an AllSchools Track and Field competition, where I competed in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and Long Jump. Despite not excelling initially, I was eager to improve and sought advice from coaches. By April, I was on the state team for South Australia, heading to my first Nationals in Sydney. Being around top athletes motivated me to work harder, and by the end of 2022 at AllSchools Nationals in Adelaide, I had my breakthrough, winning bronze medals in the 400m and Long Jump.

The following year, I became the National Champion in Long Jump and the National Runner-Up this year, earning a spot on the Australian team for the World U20 Championship in Peru. Although this is only my third year in the sport, Track and Field has taught me valuable life lessons and provided incredible opportunities. Representing Australia on the world stage is a dream come true, and I would appreciate your support in making this dream a reality.
