Jonty Murdoch (from Bundaberg, QLD) has recently been selected in the Australian U18 Athletics Team to compete at the Oceania Athletics Championships to be held in Fiji, from the 1^st to the 9^th of June, 2024. Jonty has been selected to compete in both the Discus and the Shot Put.

Jonty is a regional athlete, born and raised in Bundaberg, and often makes the 9 hour return car trip to Brisbane to compete in major competitions. He is a self-taught thrower and is coached by his Dad, Leon, out of the Bundaberg Athletics Club.

In the past 4 Australian Junior Championships, Jonty has won 7 gold medals and 3 silver medals placing him as one of Australia’s best up and coming young throwers.

In December 2023, Jonty threw the discus 63.09m at the Australian All Schools Championships in Perth, ranking him #1 in the World for the U17 age group, as well as #2 in the World for the U18 age group – a phenomenal achievement for an athlete from regional Queensland.

Jonty is currently raising funds so he can compete for Australia in the Oceania Championships in Fiji, which will total around $4500. Any additional amounts raised will assist Jonty with transport and accommodation costs to attend major meets in Brisbane later in the year.
