About the project

The objectives of La Perouse Board Riders Indigenous Corporation (LBRIC) are to start a local Indigenous surf club which through surfing, will prevent the increase of depression, obesity, drug abuse and incarceration in our community, while also promoting a fun, healthy lifestyle in the La Perouse area.

The corporation aims to:

  • Develop our surf club;
  • Focus on surf education, surf awareness and the importance of Indigenous peoples’ connection to the ocean;
  • Provide, maintain and store surf/safety equipment (i.e. surfboards, surf equipment, wetsuits, watercrafts, safety equipment etc.) for lessons and competitions safety;
  • Register with Surfing Australia / Surfing NSW promoting the Indigenous Surfing Program (ISP);
  • Attend and provide cost of travel and accommodation to national Indigenous surfing competitions and challenges in Australia and abroad;
  • Hold regular local surf contests and host an annual Indigenous surf contest inviting Indigenous surfers from all over Australia to compete;
  • Hold surf camps and workshops throughout the year at different surf locations around Australia;
  • Bridge the Gap by providing a positive experience which in turn will result in a more confident, focused and healthy attitude in school life and beyond;
  • Provide and fund Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training.
We're hoping to raise $50,000 to support junior participation growth programs, athlete and team travel costs, high performance programs and clubhouse facilities upgrades.
