About the project

The Lakeside Sailing Club was formed in 2011 and operates at the Lake in Lakeside Pakenham for the benefit of our local community. Our club is also an inclusive (able/disabled sailing members) sailing club and is affiliated with Sailability Victoria.

We are planning to construct a floating jetty which will allow wheelchair users to be able to join in our sailing programs, by using the installation of a lift/hoist for their benefit. The jetty will also allow easy access to the boats for all, including the delivery and retrieval of the extremely heavy centre boards, designed to guarantee a no capsize of our Access Disability Boats. The mere presence of the jetty will also be another way of encouraging new members.

Upon the installation of our planned floating Jetty we'll be recognised by Sailability Victoria as an operational centre, allowing the transfer of wheelchair users to be able to join in our sailing programs. The attraction will be directed to those within our community (i.e. Juniors) who otherwise would not be given the opportunity to sail without this type of installation.
