My name is Lucas Jordan Mikkelsen, and I am a 11-year-old Grade 6 student at Eltham North Primary School Eltham Victoria. I am excited to share that I have been selected to represent the Victoria Team at the Australian School Sports National Tennis Championship, known as the Bruce Cup. This prestigious event will be held in Darwin from August 17 to August 24, 2024.

The Bruce Cup is a national school tennis championship for boys and girls aged 12 and under, and it has a rich history dating back to 1938. Many Australian tennis legends, including Rod Laver, Lew Hoad, and current stars like Ash Barty and Nick Kyrgios, began their representative careers in this tournament. This year, I am honoured to have the opportunity to compete and represent Victoria with my team.

I first took up a racket at the age of 5 at my first school, St. Martin’s Primary School in Rosanna. I joined the hot shots tennis at a trial at school and never looked back. This took me to Yallambie Tennis club where I enrolled in weekly lessons. Here am I to this day with my coach at Fireball tennis. Since then, I have been passionate about tennis and have dreamed of becoming a professional player. I also enjoy participating in other sports and had the chance to compete in cross country running for my school.

Over the past six years, I have worked hard every day to achieve my goals. I have been fortunate to receive numerous opportunities, such as being part of the Super 10 since I was 8 and continuing to been part of the U13 Zone squad. I have also represented the School at State level.

According to Tennis Australia, I am among the top UTR players for Australia in 2012. I am dedicated to working hard every day and pursuing my dreams with the support of my community, family and coaches.
