The Melville Boys are off to the Indoor Hockey World Cup! We are extremely proud of four of our young adult members, Ryan Pace, Ben Staines, Jake Staines and Matt Tate, who have been selected in the Australian Indoor Hockey Team. Ryan, Ben and Jake are part of the 12-man team, while Matt is one of two travelling reserves in case of Covid or injury.

The team is heading for Europe on 21 January, where they will train and play some warm-up games against quality opposition, before heading to Pretoria, South Africa, where the World Cup starts on 5 February.

Unlike our national outdoor team, the Kookaburras, the indoor hockey team is entirely self-funded. This trip will cost each player upwards of $6000 (airfares, accommodation, meals), and this comes on top of around $10000 each they have already spent over the last 18 months, making several trips to NSW and Tasmania for selection camps and training, a trip to New Zealand for the final team selection, and their current trip to play in Brisbane at the Australian National Championships.

As a club, we would like to help them out… so we encourage any members who might be in a position to donate, to please support the boys! All donations over $2 are tax-deductible. If you have any contacts in the corporate world who might be able to help, please share this project with them. 😊

(You may know that the four boys have been doing their best to raise funds individually, and you may have already supported them - THANK YOU! We set up this project to make it easy for members and friends to donate to them as a group, rather than having to make four separate donations, with all funds raised split equally between the four players.)
