In 2017 Netball NT formed the Territory’s first representative netball team for females with an intellectual disability, the Dragonflies.

The Dragonflies became the first Northern Territory team to compete at the Marie Little Shield, the national netball championship for females with an intellectual disability.

Following the successful establishment of the Dragonflies, and with the help of associations, an All-Abilities grade in the local competition allowing was created. Over the past four years participation in the all abilities competition has increased by more than 40%.

For Netballers with an intellectual disability, playing for the Dragonflies and proudly representing the Northern Territory on the National Stage is now a realistic dream.

Just like any NT representative team, playing Netball on the national stage requires high-quality coaching staff, support staff, regular training, and match opportunities.
