The Two Blues are embarking on a major upgrade of the centre wicket, its first full refurbishment in more than 50 years. A major program of works is proposed for the refurbishment including the removal of 80-100mm of soil from the centre wicket, replacement turf, laser levelling and new grass. The centre wicket area has served the club well for many decades but is no longer able to support sufficient grass growth to produce a top quality wicket. Without a significant upgrade, the wicket will continue to deteriorate and the our club will suffer. To attract top-flight players, we need a top-flight wicket and despite the best efforts of a series of curators over many years, our decks are not as good as they could and should be due to the condition of the centre wicket soil. In order to attract new players, host women’s cricket and deliver more marquee games, including representative cricket, the centre square must be overhauled.
