About the project

The Northam Hockey Club, along with the Avon Hockey Association, wants to raise $400,000 to build a fully lit, synthetic hockey turf at the Bert Hawke Club Grounds in Northam. The total build is close to $1Million and we are about $100,000 short of Stage One (turf) and $300,000 of Stage Two (lights, scoreboard, surrounding site development).

There is NO synthetic turf in our region and our players need to travel 180 – 300km for a return trip just to access one, most of us can’t do this regularly. We have players from over 8 Shires including Northam, York, Beverley, Toodyay, Goomalling, Cunderdin/Meckering, Wongan Hills and Chittering. In addition, players in the surrounding Shires are eagerly waiting to access a turf.

So we want to build our own facility that supports our players and our region -

  • To give our juniors the same opportunities to develop skills as kids in other regions and Perth,
  • To enable more of our seniors be able to regularly access turf facilities so that they don’t have to travel several hours just to play,
  • To have the facilities so we can invite other teams to our region for development and competition opportunities.
  • And, ultimately, to be able to play in summer, under lights, during the cooler evening.

So far we have raised over $200,000 inkind and cash, and the Shire of Northam have indicated a further $400,000 in support subject to all other funding being in place.

We need your help now to turn this opportunity into reality. Please donate to the Northam Hockey Club Turf Upgrade Fund.
