In 2009, the Oakbank Golf Club took the first steps in reducing the volume of water it took from the aquifer at a time when water was a big issue in south Australia. We converted all of the par 4 and par 5 fairways to couch grass, thus reducing the volume of water needed on an annual basis to keep those fairways green.
Since the establishment of the course over 20 years ago, much of the original watering infrastructure is failing and watering efficiency has decreased. Funds raised will be used to replace this infrastructure and establish a fully automated watering system with more efficient pumps and sprinklers. This will allow our volunteers to devote their time to other areas within the club.
