National Mountain Bike Orienteering Team
Your donation is supporting Orienteering Australia
Visit websiteAn Australian team competes in the annual World Mountain Bike Orienteering Championships, which comprises both elite and junior (Under 21 years) categories. Only riders of a high level are selected so team size varies from year to year and some riders can’t afford to race every year. MTBO competitors face more costs than foot orienteers, such as extra transport costs in additional baggage for flights and extra van or truck hire to transport bikes around for the 2 weeks overseas. Additionally it is necessary for riders to take out specific insurance to cover bike racing whilst overseas, which isn’t covered by travel insurance. Whilst Orienteering Australia meets the costs of coach/manager support and entry fees the majority of the costs for the two weeks overseas (one week of training and one week of actual championships); uniform costs and the actual airfares are paid by team members.
